forever 21

last year on september 9th, major league baseball celebrated roberto clemente day. the pirates all wore number 21 in honor of their hall of fame outfielder, and other players also joined in the remembrance of clemente and the honoring of his legacy.

case in point, jesus aguilar is shown wearing a "21" patch on his jersey on this 2021 topps stadium club card:
this year, roberto clemente day is scheduled for september 15, with the winner of the roberto clemente award to be announced that day.

last year, puerto rican players were given the option of wearing number 21, and all teams were given the patches like the one worn by aguilar, who hails from venezuela. i will be tuning in to some games next week to see how teams are recognizing clemente - hopefully every team takes part as his influence goes well beyond pittsburgh and puerto rico.

    1. thanks. i like when baseball recognizes its past with things like retired numbers and days for players like jackie robinson and roberto clemente.

  2. That's pretty cool that they allowed all Puerto Rican players to wear #21. I'm not sure if I've added any new Clemente cards recently. If I have, I'll try to show them off next week. Thanks for the heads up.
