call this one the battle of the high hats.
i received this card
from kerry at cards on cards last year. it's from the 1994 mother's cookies 1993 rookie of the year set, and the way mike piazza is wearing his hat immediately made me think of this fabulous card:
from the 1988 o-pee-chee set of delino deshields. it was the first 1988 variation that
i showed on my blog about o-pee-chee variations, and to me, that card (a card that didn't exist in topps sets that year) is the gold standard of high hats. although, fred mcgriff
might want a word. what say you?
I heard someone say once that Delino Deshields's hat looks like a bag of Jiffy Pop on that card, and now I can't unsee that.
ReplyDeleteha. the beauty of the mesh back is that you can see how high off of his head he is wearing the hat.
DeleteI thought the 88OPC DeShields was unique because it came out two years before his other cards. The high hat thing makes it even more unique. I haven't really worn hats since the 90's (unless I go to a day game during the summer), but I've always worn my hat low with the brim curved.
ReplyDeletei wear hats fairly often. i prefer the unconstructed hat/low profile, but i do have a game type dodger hat that i'll wear to games.
DeleteFred made it look the least silly.
ReplyDeleteperhaps a tip from tom emanski?
