got a hoot!

i was fairly content with my 2004 upper deck legends timeless teams partial set of autographs when i posted late last year. i had 99 of the 300 cards (not counting ones that are in my dodger team collection), and i liked that i was able to fill eleven sheets exactly.  i hadn't deleted my saved ebay searches, however, and so of course, a fairly significant card showed up just before the new year with a very reasonable buy it now price and i couldn't resist. here is the 100th certified autograph card from the set that i have added:
not only is it the late hall of famer bob "hoot" gibson, but it is card #1 in the set.
it's also a short print with only 50 in existence according to upper deck, and so i was done in by the reasonably low bin price.

so now i decided to push my total of these cards to 108, and i've already added a few to help fill out that 12th sheet, including this one of gibson's fellow hall of famers phil niekro:
and tony perez
i was happy to find these two at reasonable prices at the beckett marketplace. the niekro features a great photo. i suppose once i fill this sheet, another card will pop up and i'll work on the next sheet. i still have no plans to finish the autograph set, however. i'll just take it one card at a time!

  1. This is a very cool autograph project. Hope you'll show off those 9-pocket pages one day.

  2. Most sets are built one card at a time. That's a nice set I didn't know existed.

  3. It's kind of crazy to think that someone could own so many autographed cards from one set.
