the 2021 playoffs have been pretty good for former dodgers, with joc pederson hitting key home runs and alex wood stifling his former teammates, but old friend kiké hernandez has taken things to a different level.
he set a postseason record for most hits in five consecutive postseason games, had a walk-off sac fly to win the division series, and then hit two bombs in game 1 of the alcs. and that is just his offense - he has made some great plays in the field, too.
of course, we dodger fans knew about kiké and his postseason prowess already, thanks to his 3-homer game in the 2017 nlcs and his homers last year in the nlcs against the braves. i recently added a couple of his cards to my collection, but first here is his 2021 topps card
that came in a sportlots order a few months ago. kiké is a dodger here, flying in the world series, but his signing with the red sox meant that the image had to be photoshopped. thankfully, we still have his 2020 topps card to celebrate, and i added the blueand orange
factory set versions to my rainbow pursuit of this card.
so far this postseason, the dodgers have vanquished old friends wood and one time organization member darin ruf, and are currently battling joc and short-time dodgers travis d'arnaud and jesse chavez. it would be great if they could meet up with kiké, alex verdugo, nathan eovaldi and alex cora in the world series.
Kiki reminds me of Shane Victorino - under the wire pickup during the off season, great clubhouse guy, has some big hits in the postseason..
ReplyDeleteshane victorino - another former dodger who helped out the bosox!
