i had a lot of cards from 2003 in one of those forgotten monster boxes i've mentioned a few times. here's one of them:
it's a 1951 style blue back insert of albert pujols. topps remained loyal to the original set by using "hit by pitcher" rather than the (now?) proper phrase "hit by pitch". maybe in 1951 people said hit by pitcher? i don't know, but i do know that robin ventura is the most memorable guy to have been "hit by pitcher", as long as we are only considering fists and not bats. i can't imagine any pitcher raising a fist to mr. pujols here.

DeleteRyan vs. Pujols. Put a 42 year old Nolan vs. a 42 year old Albert into a ring... and that would definitely be a battle of the ages.
ReplyDeleteryan was probably a bit more nimble at that age than pujols is. still, i think pujols would let ryan tire himself out then bring the hammer down.
