the almost daily dodger - hyun-jin ryu

we are less than a week out from pitchers and catchers reporting for all teams, and hyun-jin ryu remains a free agent. here's his 2013 topps walmart blue parallel card
i am surprised that ryu and other still available free agent starters haven't landed on new teams yet given the need so many teams have at that position. ryu showed at the end of last season that he was ready to go following tommy john surgery in 2022 and has pitched well for the majority of his career.

i thought there was a chance of a dodger reunion (how great would it have been to have him pitch in his home country of south korea in the opening series) but that seems unlikely at this point given the acquisitions and signings the dodgers have made to date. one of those signings includes clayton kershaw which makes me quite happy so while i hope ryu signs on somewhere and has a productive season, i am satisfied with what the dodgers have done.

  1. The Mets could certainly use him! But we don't seem interested in competing this year.

  2. Been patiently waiting (cue 50 Cent & Eminem) to see where Blake Snell is going to sign. At least we got the good news that Kershaw is coming back to the Dodgers.
