yeah sapphire

i'm sick and i'm tired and i'm fried and you've got to believe me.

so sayeth the hold steady in their song "yeah sapphire" from the album "stay positive". it kind of sums up how i feel and how i am sure many people feel after 11 months of living in a pandemic. however, i am going to stay the course!

i had tickets to a show for the hold steady that was scheduled for april of 2020 at first avenue. first ave is the club in minneapolis that was used in the filming of "purple rain", and it's a great place to see a show - i've seen many there, such as ryan adams, the cult, midnight oil, golden smog, secret machines, ben folds, black rebel motorcycle club, paul westerberg, curtiss a and many more, including the hold steady with drive by truckers on an earlier tour. anyway, the show was postponed and rescheduled for may of this year. we will see.

as for cards, i did pick up the 2020 topps chrome sapphire version of (now former dodger) kiké hernandez's card last fall
and it's a beaut, as you can see.

i also added the factory set exclusive gold star
and foilboard
versions for my rainbow chase, too.

which reminded me - i had added the 2019 topps foilboard version of the dodger stadium card
to my previous year's rainbow chase.

not sure if i'll be able to get to dodger stadium or first avenue in 2021, but i am hoping. either way, i plan to stay positive.

  1. Midnight Oil seemed like they would have been good live.

    1. i've seen them twice - once in 1989 and once in 2014. both were high energy shows.

  2. Man... I would have loved to see Midnight Oil in concert back in the 80's. Well... at least the two songs I knew of theres.

Speaking of music... I can't see a Kiké card without getting Drake's In My Feelings stuck in my head. So thanks for that.

    1. i saw them in santa barbara in 1989 on the blue sky mining tour. you probably would recognize more than two songs by them. i'm not familiar with that drake song, and for the sake of avoiding a potential earworm, i'll avoid it for now.

  3. I love the sapphire cards, especially when featuring teams with blue in their color schemes. The Kiké card is a beaut!

  4. I'm hoping future Kike cards with the Red Sox will approach the awesomeness of this card, but that a high bar to clear!
