sworn in now

it's official - president biden and vice president harris were sworn in to office earlier today!
i picked up this topps now card after the election was called for the pair, and it seems like it's been longer than 10 weeks or so since that happened.

the first inauguration i recall seeing was jimmy carter's in 1977. i was at a neighbor's house and it was on the tv - i was only 6 so it's not as if i made a point to watch it. since then, i believe i have seen most inaugurations - reagan's for sure, as well as clinton's and obama's. i don't recall either of the bush inaugurations, but it is possible if not probable that i watched those as well. i even tuned in four years ago, hoping to see and hear something that would resonate with me and give me hope. i did not.

president biden said all the right things in his speech, and i hope that his administration is successful in advancing and protecting the america-defining common objects that he spoke of, for all americans.

i also recently added another presidential card to my collection - a 2010 upper deck biography card featuring former president obama
this one goes in my name/number on the back mini-collection which i have officially added to my array of mini-collections. maybe there will be a similar card featuring 46 on a dodger jersey later this year?

  1. Today is the first inauguration that I've watched live in a long, long time. I usually catch the video highlights on the news. I truly hope Topps makes a card for the young woman who wrote and delivered that beautiful poem. And I'm so glad I had the opportunity to watch her live with my homeroom students.

P.S. That Obama card is cool. I was just thinking about putting together a 90 card (b/c I have one of those 10 9-pocket page Ultra Pro folders) frankenset based on jersey numbers (where the jersey number is featured on the card. If that ever gets off the ground, I might have to track down that card for the #44 spot. Then again... there's Hank Aaron too.

    1. that was a powerful moment of the inauguration, for sure.
lots of options at 44 - obama, hank aaron as you mention, plus reggie! seems like it would come down to the card that shows the number best. i hope you go for this frankenset - i'd enjoy seeing it come together.

    3. Hate that it was a package deal... but no way I could pass up that Amanda Cooper card. I bought it.

  2. Cool card. I didn't know they had non baseball subjects in the flagship Topps Now sets. I may have to start taking a look at them. I love the NHL stickers they do.

    1. they did a short run for the presidential election from the first debate to the call of the winners. the mike pence card had the second highest print run, possibly because they used a photo with the fly on his head.
i took a look at the nhl stickers you mentioned, and they do look nice - from the design to the photography. then again, hockey and basketball always seem to have potential for great photography due to the close proximity of players (but not always too close like football) during the games' action.

  3. By the time that the card was printed, Mr. Biden was NOT the president elect. I will also never refer to him as president, nor Harris as vice president.

    1. i guess that is your prerogative. for the record, i did refer to trump as president even though i did not vote for him in 2016 and was disappointed that he was elected. i have no way of knowing, but i wonder if you were as concerned about outside influence on the 2016 election as much as you seem to be concerned about the claims of election fraud that were made by president trump regarding the 2020 election? if you'll recall, a few days before the 2016 election, then candidate trump claimed that the election was rigged - and then he won! he is a proven liar, and i don't understand how anyone can take anything he says seriously, including claims of fraud that have been dismissed by court after court after court.
