the k is for kershaw kountdown continues - rockies mountain high edition

yes, the kountdown to 3,000 strikeouts for clayton kershaw continues as he pitched against the rockies on tuesday night in denver. he struck out 2 batters to give him 105 strikeouts on the season. those 2 rockies that he k'd increased his career total to 2,912.

in honor of his performance, here are 2 cards to represent strikeouts 2,911 through 2,912.

kershaw remains in 21st place on the all-time leader board, and will remain there until he passes zack greinke, who struck out 3 last friday and 0 on thursday to increase his career strikeout total to 2,943. kershaw is now 31 k's behind greinke and 88 away from the 3,000 milestone.

kershaw faced the minimum number of batters through six innings in colorado. he walked one batter who was erased on a double play and then gave up his only hit to a batter with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. that baserunner was promptly picked off. i was a bit surprised that kershaw didn't get a shot at the seventh inning since his pitch count was pretty low, but now we know he was not feeling his best. he didn't get deep in to too many counts which is reflected in the low number of strikeouts he recorded. it looked like the rockies were trying to be aggressive in the box and not letting themselves fall behind in the count.

it seemed that kershaw's next start would come against the royals this weekend in kansas city but he’s dealing with some shoulder inflammation so it’s unclear if he will make another start before the all-star break. regardless of when he makes his next start, i will be back to update the kountdown soon thereafter. stay tuned!
