after an unprecedented regular season start wherein clayton kershaw failed to record a strikeout, the k is for kershaw kountdown is back.
kershaw bounced back from that k-less outing as he took the ball against the phillies last tuesday, striking out 5 batters to give him 11 strikeouts for the 2024 season. those 5 phillies that he k'd increased his career total to 2,955.
in honor of his performance, here are 5 not seen on this blog before cards from my collection to represent strikeouts 2,951 through 2,955.
kershaw remains in 21st place on the all-time leader board, and he will remain there until he passes zack greinke. greinke, who hasn't formally retired but hasn't joined a team so far in 2024, has a career strikeout total of 2,979. kershaw is now 24 k's behind greinke and 45 away from the 3,000 milestone.
kershaw started the game against the phillies by striking out kyle schwarber swinging. he wound up pitching 4.2 innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks, although he did hit a batter. he faced the minimum nine batters through the first three innings, and his swing and miss count was up, which was nice to see.
kershaw should be back on the mound this coming week in milwaukee, looking to get through five innings for the first time this year. know that when kershaw makes his next start, i will be back to update the kountdown soon thereafter. stay tuned!
Hoping he passes Greinke this season. Guessing he'll get 3,000 early next season.
ReplyDeleteYes, not looking likely that he'll get to 3K this year. I hope he sticks around and stays in LA for it. It will be a sad day if he either retires and never hits the mark or leaves LA and tosses that 3000th K for someone else.
