can you spot the difference...again?

here's another opportunity for you to use your powers of perception following on the heels of fuji's recent post, as well as the one that i did not too long ago.

take a look at these three dodger cards:
and now take a look at these three dodger cards:
can you spot the difference?

can you?

well, i will assure you that these cards come from different releases, but the only difference lies with the mookie betts card, and that is the placement of the topps chrome logo.

the first three cards come from 2022 topps chrome, and the second set of cards come from 2022 topps chrome sonic.

everything but the logo on the front of mookie's card is the same, and there is no difference between the two albert pujols cards or the two clayton kershaw cards.  supposedly most of the regular topps chrome cards have the logo on the right and most of the topps chrome sonic cards have the logo on the left.  pujols and kershaw are exceptions to that rule.

even the card numbers are the same, although there is one other difference on the backs. the codes for regular topps chrome cards end in 967
and the codes on the sonic cards end in 439
i don't understand why topps couldn't update the set name under the card number. pacific was doing that in the 1990's, and upper deck did it in the late 2000's. heck, panini is doing it today. it's not hard, topps, especially when you are putting out identical base cards.

i did not actively pursue the sonic cards, in case you are wondering. they were included in a large lot of cards that i bought recently, and i didn't even know they were sonic cards until i researched things a bit.  no, the only sonic card i sought out was this clayton kershaw black and white ray wave refractor
i am enticed by shiny, and apparently that is all that topps needs to know.

  1. Insane. How is one supposed to go to a store or a show and know what these are? They put a different logo for Chrome Ben Baller a couple years ago, so it's not as though it's a technical problem for them.

  2. Sonic is a travesty, I hope I never catch myself buying anything from it.

  3. I tried to spot the difference... but gave up after 30 seconds. Can't believe I didn't spot the placement of the Chrome logo.

  4. I was the same as you. Didn't know Sonic was a thing until I grabbed one of those Wave Refractors out of a quarter box. Stupid, stupid set. But some pretty cards.
