it's only been about a year since i found out that there were trading cards showing mad magazine covers. i was hoping to find one that featured the issue that included a letter from a young gcrl, but was not successful. however, i did find this one to add to my "meaningful and just because" mini-collection
it features the october 1988 issue which is from a time after i was collecting and subscribing, but it fits as a cross between two of my primary collecting habits of my youth since it is a trading card and one that shows a baseball card on the cover at that.
here's the back of the card - no stats for alfred e. neuman
but no al jaffee fold-in, either. actually, it would have been perfect for the producer of these cards, something called lime rock international, to have put fold-ins on the card backs and make collectors decide whether or not to mangle the cards.
i still have my mad magazine collection, but i sold off my paperbacks years ago. even though it is not regularly published anymore, i did see a special issue on display at a cvs last month and for a moment i thought about taking a look. that moment passed and i realized later that i am an old person now.
