wilbur wears white sox

one of the things i do when i see a card is to look at the uniform the featured player is wearing. i'm looking at patches, mainly. i have a minicollection focused on memorial patches (not too many regular black armbands these days), but i also appreciate the variety of other adornments teams add to their unis.

a few months ago i grabbed a few 2022 topps heritage baseball flashback inserts from a bargain box at a show, and studied this wilbur wood card

i was not very familiar with the patch wood is sporting on his left sleeve, so i looked it up. 

duh. it's a white sock under "sox" text. 

the design on his stirrup is similar - it's a white sock but without the "sox" text. so that means that the white sox wore white socks on (and underneath) their red stirrups. 

i am a bit disappointed that we live in an era where stirrups are just designs on socks, but there are a ton of different patches that catch my eye so there is plenty to see on cards these days.
