continuing the search for logo overload

it's been over four years since this post, but i have never stopped looking for more four-in-one logo cards. let's see some logos!

first up is a sticker from 1990 publications international that features the dodgers' hat logo
that is the logo that is most likely to show up on a card multiple times simply because it is the hat logo.

this 2001 topps ismael valdes gold parallel
that i bought earlier this year has four logos, but they are not all the same. topps sometimes uses teams' official logos, which in the dodgers' case is the script and flying ball design. the club still wears "dodgers" in script on their sleeves, but only with jerseys that say "los angeles" on the front. the jersey that valdes is modeling is one of the worst dodger fits of all time.

i also bought this 2014 topps ricky nolasco camo parallel for the dodger collection
it features three "la" logos, and if yasiel puig had been holding his hat the other way, we would have had four. with two players, however, it would not have counted towards a four-in-one. here's the back of the card
showing the serial numbering to 99.

topps switched to the hat logo in 2013, and they stuck with it for the most part (2021 and 2023 were the exceptions) until this year. still, i found no four logo cards. here are some three logo cards - kenley jansen's gold parallel from 2015
a rainbow foil parallel of alex verdugo from 2020
a 2022 topps chrome trea turner prism refractor
and a 2022 topps update turner manufactured relic
if only the card design included the logo as well...

tyler glasnow's 2024 topps chrome prism refractor
and tommy edman's 2025 topps holofoil parallel
are two more recent examples. there are many more dodger cards that include photos with three logos because of the sleeve logo, so it's not as big of a deal as it used to be.

i did get sort of excited by the tyler glasnow/blake snell combo card in 2025 topps update
that is the holiday foil parallel, of course, but here we have five logos! with two players, it's not much to write home about, however.

as for other teams, i found some recent-ish releases to share.

this 2020 bowman robel garcia card
has four "c"s on it. not all are the same logos, however.

this 2022 topps kurt suzuki card
has four "a"s on it, although the one on the jersey (part of the "angels" text on the chest) is obscured.

thankfully, i was able to find a card that rivals the 1984 fleer mike vail card featured in the post linked above.
jarrod dyson's 2019 topps card sets a new standard for a four-in-one logo card! of course, i would prefer the player to be wearing three of the logos, but this is a very logo oriented card!

of course, one could cheat, like with this 2000 topps tek pattern 5 card of shawn green
or this 2024 topps jonny deluca team color border parallel
but they don't count in this endeavor.

last year i did find and purchase a dodger single player four logo card - it is james outman's 2025 topps golden mirror variation
had james' left arm been forward in the photo, we would have seen five "la" logos on the card! here's the back:
which features another logo.

i am hoping that 2027 topps goes back to the hat logos with the card design. regardless, the search for logo overload continues!

to give is to receive

most of the giveaways i've hosted have been "almost free" in that claimants can have as many cards as they choose, and need only send one card back to me in return. the most recent giveaway i hosted was a true giveaway so i was a bit surprised when one of the winners, mark z, sent a few cards back my way.

mark took care of a few 1991 needs from my want list, with five cards from 1991 classic including steady eddie murray
along with brett butler, kal daniels, orel hershiser, and ramon martinez
that's the first new kal daniels card i've added to my collection in a long time!

another 1991 need sent along was this 1991 legends sports memorabilia darryl strawberry card
new dodger strawberry was the subject of an absolute avalanche of oddball cards back then. the homecoming didn't go quite as planned but there was so much excitement early on. i really enjoy finding and receiving new-to-me dodger strawberry cards!

one more card to show, and it's a bit more modern. it's a 2013 topps chrome andre ethier blue refractor parallel
these guys are numbered to 199
i am reminded of the interesting stuff topps put on card backs in the early 2010's. in this case, the career chase of hank aaron's rbi total. ethier amassed another 152 rbi in his career after this card was printed, so he only fell 1,610 short of hammerin' hank's mark.

that's good stuff, just like these cards. thanks mark!

bonus content!

jon from penny sleeves reached out a couple of weeks ago asking about some player collections of mine and late last week these two cards showed up in my mailbox:

1997 collector's edge masters mark brunell ripped
2000 topps tek vladimir guerrero pattern 7
pattern 7 is "hometown" and topps has "nizao bani" listed for vladdy. he was born in nizao (according to baseball reference) and bani is close by. not sure why they had two towns listed, or if nizao bani is a whole separate entity. i am also reminded that i need to get my brunell cards listed in tcdb.

anyway, more good stuff for the collection. thanks jon!

the luck of the irish

last summer, when i began entering my dodger collection on tcdb, i was surprised to find out that there were a couple of the 1962 topps green tint dodgers that i was missing. i may have ignored them back when i picked up the lee walls, frank howard, and wally moon variations since they aren't as striking as those three (two of which use different photos), but if that were the case i had forgotten about my decision, and present day gcrl wasn't having it!

i was curious to see if i had a green tint pete richert card in my dupes box, but instead found this one:
yes, the babe ruth dodger card is the other one with a green tint variation, and i actually had one stashed away in a box. with that stroke of luck, i decided to lay out a couple of bucks for the richert variation
so that i could feel complete with my dodger team set.

with st. patrick's day coming up in a couple of days, i may as well continue the green theme and show off some shawn green cards that entered my collection in 2022, and there were a few!

the newest cards come from 2021 topps chrome platinum anniversary
those would be the base, xfractor, and black & white mini diamonds refractor. green looks a bit creepy on these cards, like topps put him through a de-aging cgi program.

green wasn't included in the dodgers' 2000 topps stadium club set, which is probably why i did not have his 2000 topps stadium club chrome card until last year
and the same goes for his 2000 topps stadium club chrome refractor card
the checklist i was using was just a straight copy of the non-chrome set. this is one of the things that tcdb did for me - clarify some old team sets that were cobbled together from sometimes less than reliable sources.

here's his 2000 topps stars card
which i think was among my most wanted cards for a while.

green had a second card in the 2000 bowman's best set
and he has a bunch of cards in 2000 topps tek
thanks to all the patterns involved. these four cards got me up to six different patterns, i believe.

i already had his 2003 upper deck first pitch season highlights card, but added another
since it highlights his 4 home run game in milwaukee that i had the good fortune to attend in person. in to the "cards featuring games i have seen in person" mini collection!

2004 bowman chrome
is one of the more forgettable bochro designs with the speed hump. topps wasn't trying very hard.

2004 donruss studio
gives us a shot of downtown la. i've always enjoyed being able to see downtown from dodger stadium.

2004 fleer showcase
captures green with his goatee

2005 donruss prime patches
is called "prime patches" but this is just a big piece of blue jersey.

2005 topps gallery artist's proof
i like this impressionist rendering of green's swing.

and now for some shiny. sort of.

i have learned that 2001 bowman heritage chrome
does not scan well.

slightly better is 2003 topps heritage chrome
and better than that is 2004 topps heritage chrome
but only because the background wasn't black to start with.

not a lot of difference (besides the card design) between that 2004 heritage chrome and green's 2005 topps heritage chrome card
but the refractor really sings!

one more refractor, this one from 2005 topps chrome

that's a lot of green, and as any competent leprechaun knows, there is always gold
at the end of the rainbow post.

have a happy and safe st. patrick's day and don't forget your green!
