through with blue

in my last post, i mentioned some cards were included in my comc order that would show up in other posts. this is one of those posts.

i decided at some point while building my shopping cart grab parallels from 2013 topps update. the post yesterday showed the target red parallels i bought, and here are the four walmart blue parallels that were in the order

scott van slyke, juan uribe, brian wilson, and one of three yasiel puig cards from the set. these four cards left me five from completing the team set, and i was able to find the others pretty easily.

completing the update parallel set means that i now have all of the 2013 dodgers' walmart blue parallels, as i had completed the flagship series 1 and 2 team sets a while ago. this feat goes well with my full run of the dodger emerald parallels from 2013. the 2013 flagship design offers up ample border space to fill with color, and i suppose that is one of the main reasons that i've been interested in picking up these parallels over the last 13 years.

i will probably turn a focus to the six remaining target red parallels i need from update so that i can match the target parallels to the emerald and walmart ones, as i have already completed the series 1 and 2 team set in red border form. after that, it's likely that i take a run at the gold parallels (it certainly won't be the seemingly scarce toys 'r us purple borders).

being my most recent pickups. will i get it done? probably? it helps to focus, and i am trying to do that more and more when it comes to team collecting. stay tuned!

what difference does seven years make?

i decided to try to fill in the blanks of my annual comparison posts between the topps flagship dodgers and their cards that are in the factory team set releases. those are the cards that are sold in blister packs and are numbered differently from the flagship sets. sometimes, there are photo (or other) variations, too.

as noted in the 2024 post, for some reason i did not purchase the 2017 team set back when it was released, but i have it now so here we go. remember, it's flagship on the left, team set on the right

the only difference is the placement of the topps logo. as you will see, the factory set has the logo placed with equal side and top margins. flagship has the logo situated such that it is further from the top of the card than the side. i prefer the factory set format.

topps eliminated the personalized twitter handles in favor of their hashtag on the factory set cards.

updating the topps dodger autograph project

last week i received a few ttm request returns, one of which i'll show here.  new cub brett anderson signed and returned the 2015 topps update card that i had sent him just over a year ago.  

this also allows me to fill a spot in my topps dodger autograph project for 2015 topps update.  as you might recall, i tried to secure at least one signed dodger card (ideally freely obtained through the mail) for each topps flagship set, starting with the 1951 red/blue backs, without repeating a player.  i don't officially consider update sets to be a part of the project, but i note them if i have them.  

speaking of update, i received a 2014 topps update scott van slyke card signed by mr. svs himself

sometime last year, so i've added that to the collection as well.
