upgrades to my hall of famer collection

we have a couple of weeks to go before we learn who the next baseball hall of famers are, but i already have a post or two in the hopper. before we get to those, i figured i would show off a couple of upgrades i have made to my hall of famer collection in the last year.

first up, i acquired a 1991 score mickey mantle autograph
to replace the relic card that i had in the collection previously. here's the back:
it's nice to see that mantle took his time with the signatures even though he signed thousands of these cards. i wonder how long it took him to finish.

the mantle auto is a big collection get, and even though i pulled the relic card from a pack personally, i really wanted a certified auto in the hall of famer collection. the relic moves to my "meaningful and just because" collection.

the other upgrade i've made is for joe morgan. i previously had an auto/relic card but switched to this auto card instead
that is a 2004 fleer national pastime buyback of a 2002 fleer greats of the game autograph card. here's the back:
you can see the embossed stamp pretty clearly on the back that was added to the card in 2004. the hand numbering on the front was also added in 2004, but the auto is from 2002. i had a similar card in the collection for tony perez until i replaced it with a topps archives signature card featuring perez's 1978 topps issue.

i don't have any plans to swap out any other cards in the collection, although i wouldn't mind adding some more hall of famers to the mix.

stay tuned!

  1. Whoa. That Mantle is fantastic. It's not everyday you hear about collectors adding one of those Score autographs to their collections. Congratulations!

  2. As far as upgrades for this collection go, it's gonna be awfully difficult to ever top this one. And it's not something that I had thought about prior to this post, but now I can't help but wonder if there are people out there who are still pulling these out of packs? It would be kind of neat to think that they haven't all been pulled.
