only jansen days to go...

74 days until the dodgers and padres square off in south korea to give the 2024 mlb season an early start. in honor of that, here's a 2010 topps update kenley jansen gold parallel rookie card
i purchased this card from sportlots about six months ago from a seller who had it listed at the minimum price ($0.18 + the 2 cent surcharge). not bad for a numbered parallel of a potential hall of famer's rookie card.

if jansen were to enter the hall, i wonder if the dodgers would retire his number 74. i suppose it depends upon how much longer he pitches, but with 350 saves as a dodger i think he would wear the la cap if he were inducted which seems to be the dodgers' hall of fame criteria for number retirement.

  1. Kenley Jansen is a potential Hall of Famer? That can't be right.

    1. his name has been popping up in a few different articles as a potential hofer. i think he needs a few more seasons of 30+ saves, but these articles are written by the same sorts of folks that do the voting so who knows?

    2. surprised by how high he is on the saves list, but certainly doesn't "feel' like a HOFer if you aren't a Dodger fan. I don't see what separates him out from K-Rod or John Franco right now.

    3. i think the k-rod comparison is a good one. jansen is still going, so we will see where he winds up.

  2. Never even gave Jansen a though when considering future hall of famers... but just looked up his numbers. He's 7th all-time on the saves list.

    1. i don't know that i gave him a lot of thought before seeing his name in some hof related articles. probably because there was always a bit of uncertainty with him on the mound for the dodgers later in his tenure there.

  3. He's got a shot at hitting 500 career saves. I think he'll get in if he hits that milestone.

  4. Has the MLB ever done a regular season game in SK before?
