there are several things that i like about rickey henderson's 2004 upper deck card
first, it's a card of rickey henderson as a dodger! second, it features a photo of him on the basepaths in dodger stadium with the field level seats on grand display behind him. third, it's a final tribute. as a result, i have a few copies of this card in my collection.
for the purposes of this post, i am showing the card as an example of the 2004 upper deck set which also featured stadium scenes in the nameplate background. it's a bit tough to see, but there is an image of dodger stadium looking out to the pavilions from home plate. on the landscape cards in the set like kazuhisa ishii's
upper deck used an image of the outfield fence that happened to have one of the murals showing - this particular one of tommy lasorda.
so, the henderson card and the ishii cards both feature photos taken in dodger stadium with dodger stadium also featured elsewhere.
a similarly meta card is this 2003 topps total shawn green card
green is playing right field in chavez ravine with the murals behind him, one of which features shawn green! that's green's hand and bat over his left shoulder, as he was representing the 2002 team on the murals celebrating the 40th anniversary of dodger stadium.
here are a couple more shawn green in dodger stadium cards that i've been able to add to my dodger stadium collection over the last few months by picking up duplicates on sportlots (must feed the dodger collection first!).
2003 fleer focus jersey edition
in front of eric karros on those same murals.
2002 donruss super estrellas
in front of pee wee reese's retired number.
2002 topps total
with the visitor dugout camera well in the background.
i recently split my dodger stadium mini collection in to two binders, but it still has a ways to go to catch up to the double play collection which currently sits in three binders of goodness.
here's one more card that i added to my dodger stadium collection recently - the 1994 score dodger checklist gold rush parallel
That Rickey is cool. I'm working on a project... collecting relic cards of him on different teams. Still trying to track down a Dodgers relic. Anyways... getting back to your card, I love the empty stands behind him. Can't imagine Dodger Stadium is empty like that very often (except maybe during COVID).
