cardpocalypse 7 day trading card challenge, day 2: uniquely blue in 2020

by now i am thinking you are all familiar with the 7 day trading card challenge put forth by tim at cardpocalypse. i've enjoyed reading all of the posts even as i've fallen behind in mine.  here's my entry for day 2 - a card from current release year with a unique photo.

like many, my 2020 pack busting experience has been limited mainly to topps flagship, heritage, and opening day. come to think of it, i did buy a blister pack of gypsy queen. much of my 2020 inventory has come by way of trade, ebay, or sportlots.  here's a card from this year (2020 topps now spring training) that has a unique photo
the reason i say that it is unique is that it is not often that the top deck at dodger stadium appears on a baseball card.  in addition, this card gives a different spin on the 'introductory press conference' photo ops used on cardboard before - from darryl strawberry to ken griffey jr to alex rodriguez and more. i know that kazuhisa ishii also got some dodger stadium goodness on his cards, but not the top deck like mookie betts and david price!  and yes, i did get two copies - one for the dodger stadium binder as well.

i do have to point out that topps once again got lazy with the text. you may recall last year that i was concerned about one of the jackie robinson day cards that i had ordered. that card, when it was advertised, pluralized the stadium name as "dodgers stadium". thankfully, the text was corrected to the singular form before the cards were printed. that was not the case with this card, as the text on the back shows
once again, i will offer up my time to help edit card backs as a moonlighting gig. come on topps. do better.  another frustrating thing about this card (at least this one is not topps' fault) is that it has the potential to be a 'zero year' card (attention: nick) for mookie. hopefully that is not the case!

  1. With the money people spend on these Topps Now cards, you'd think Topps would be a little better with proofreading them.

I sure hope this doesn't turn into a zero-year card...but it'd be a bigtime add to that mini-collection if worse comes to worse and there's no baseball this year. Not sure if you've seen it but Mookie has a Dodger card in 2020 Topps Stickers (or at least the back of one).

  2. So weird seeing Mookie wearing a Dodgers uniform. Definitely a unique card... for now.
