late last year i headed out to my local card shop and threw down my 2023 topps chrome shohei ohtani card
the shop participates in the mvp buyback program, so i had $20 in store credit to play with thanks to the former angel winning the 2023 american league mvp award. i spent some time with their team sorted singles and other bargain boxes and came away with a pretty good haul. i was later able to flip some of those singles to get more than my $20 back.
with some of those proceeds, i picked up a card of the 1974 national league mvp for my collection:
that is steve garvey's 2023 topps tier one autograph card. it's the base version of which there are 249 out there.one of the cards i took from the lcs was this 2009 upper deck a piece of history gold parallel card of the should-have-been 2011 national league mvp matt kemp
it is numbered to 50 and was also covered by the bounty from the ohtani exchange.

should topps continue this program next year, i may find it harder to part with shohei ohtani cards if he wins the national league mvp award. i mean, i hope he is in the running for the award, but the dodger collection needs feeding!
Nice job turning an Ohtani base card into a Garvey 'graph!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many people turned in their 2023 Chrome Ohtani cards... and how much it'll impact the value of that card in the long run.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware of this buyback program. Actually seems pretty generous, $20 for the base card.
ReplyDeleteWinning! That Garvey looks a thousand times better than the Ohtani.
