yes, the kountdown to 3,000 strikeouts for clayton kershaw continues (previous posts here and here) as he pitched against the cardinals on sunday. he struck out 6 batters in just 3 and two-thirds innings to give him 69 strikeouts on the season. those 6 cardinals that he k'd increased his career total to 2,876.

some repetition here with these six cards, which are really just three cards and three parallels of a sort.
kershaw remains in 21st place on the all-time leader board, and will remain there until he passes zack greinke, who struck out 4 earlier in the week to increase his strikeout total to 2,918. kershaw is now 42 k's behind greinke and 124 behind the 3,000 milestone.
it would seem that kershaw's next start would come this weekend in tampa bay. regardless of when he makes his next start, i will be back to update the kountdown soon thereafter. stay tuned!
Surprising to find out that Kershaw will likely be the first (and only) Dodger to log 3000 Ks as a Dodger. Of course Sutton has 3000+, but not that many with the Dodgers and when all said and done we could even claim Maddux, Scherzer and Pedro Martinez as Dodger 3000K club members (and eventually Greinke too), but none of them have any significant amounts with the team either.
ReplyDeleteI really hope he remains in LA for as long as he plays the game, a modern homage to Koufax and Drysdale, neither of whom played long enough to log in 3000 Ks. In todays version of baseball, it truly is rare to see a star player remain with a single team for his entire career, more so than the past when we saw it occasionally, but not frequent even then. I am rooting for him and he is young enough to possibly even reach 4000K if he decides to keep playing and/or his body can remain healthy enough. It's a long shot based on his last several seasons and he'd have to have a couple huge years to get him close and pitch into his early 40s, but that would be awesome to have a Dodger in the 4000K club!
Totally agree with MrMopar that I hope Kershaw stays a Dodger for the whole career. But I doubt he'll stick around for 4000ks.
