no scrub

i shared the dodger cards i picked up from 2022 topps via sportlots a couple of weeks ago. i alluded to some non-dodger pickups in that post, showed one of those on monday night, and now here is the other card that fits in to that category.

i added a(n also known as a) buster posey card
for my final tribute collection. here are his complete major league stats on the back:
posey announced after the 2021 season that he was retiring. he's not yet 35 (his birthday is sunday) but he was a catcher after all. as for his hall of fame chances, to me, he is thurman munson - hall of very good worthy.

posey did win a batting title as a catcher which is an accomplishment - something munson did not do - but he has a rookie-of-the-year and one mvp award which do match munson. he has three world series rings to munson's two, but their war is very similar. munson played in slightly more games but had fewer home runs. i guess i would need to understand why munson is not in the hall if posey is enshrined.

time will tell!

  1. Posey's definitely a HOFer to me, and Munson should've been in a long time ago.

    1. i was ok with munson not making it, but won't be if posey gets in.

  2. As much as I dislike the Giants... I always liked Posey. Glad Topps made a 2021 card for him. As for Munson and Posey... I'd vote for both of them if I had a say.

    1. i am also pleased that topps is giving us these final tributes. posey's retirement announcement came early enough for him to be dropped from the checklist but for whatever reason topps kept him on, thankfully.

  3. I guess Posey is the face of the 3-time Giants WS winners. I agree both he and Munson should be in. Don't see how you can have Ted Simmons in and not Munson. A lot of people in baseball are anti-Yankee and that includes the HOF voters. Yankees rarely get in as borderline candidates - look how long it took Rizzuto to get in.

    1. i relegated munson to the hall of very good when i was a lot younger. today, i really don't see how roy campanella is in but not munson - this is before you even get to ted simmons. and, for the record, i absolutely believe that campanella was a hall of famer.
