it's state fair time in minnesota, which means food on a stick and hot and muggy weather. these are not the "dog days of summer" however, as that refers to a period from late july to mid august when the sun is in alignment with the sirius constellation. i did not know that. anyway, i have a card with a dog on it to show off:
that is a 2010 natural balance promo with tillman, the world's fastest skateboarding dog! it's in my collection because tillman is sharing space with steve garvey, who signed this copy. here's the back:after topps 86'd the bark in the park card(s) from 2018 big league, i've been missing canines on cards. this one works nicely. i didn't know anything about the card or the pet food advertised (that would be natural balance pet food founded by dick van patten aka mr. bradford!) until i saw the card offered for sale on ebay several months ago. i then learned that mrmopar posted about it seven years ago. there is lots of good background info on the promotional events held during the 2010 season here including a photo that shows stacks of the promo cards waiting to be signed by the garv. quite a unique item for the pc!
Sweet dog card! Still mad at Topps for putting out that "Bark in the Park" Big League teaser & never following through.
ReplyDeletei feel the same way, especially since the mockup card was from a dodger stadium event.
DeleteWas just talking to my friend at work about Eight is Enough. And I could definitely eat two corn dogs from the state fair right now.
ReplyDeletetwo corn dogs, sure. but could you handle the deep fried snickers or the bucket of sweet martha's cookies?
DeleteI've tried the deep fried Snickers at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk... and wasn't impressed. Never had Sweet Martha's Cookies... but I do enjoy a tasty cookie every now and then. If it's deep fried... I'll pass.
Deletenot deep fried, just a bucket of warm chocolate chip cookies.
DeleteNever knew that's where "dog days of summer came from". As a kid in the 1980's I'd hear that expression every year, that's when the Yankees would collapse like clockwork after a strong first half of the season.
ReplyDeletei still find it hard to believe that the yankees missed the postseason for almost the entirety of don mattingly's career. very un-yankee like.
DeleteNice to see you got one. Since posting mine, I think I have seen a couple more maybe. Still weird to me that with 100s of them on that table, none ever show up for sale? Where did they all go???
