i recently came across another card that features a game that i attended in person. this particular card comes from the large 2008 topps year in review insert set, and features joe mauer
the game in question was played on july 15, 2007. here's topps' synopsis of the contest:as i look at the back of this card, i notice that mauer's line doesn't match what is up on baseball reference. i haven't looked to see if i kept score at the game, but bbref shows mauer with 3 hits instead of 2, and a walk as well. i do have some photos from the game, including one of mauer's game winning hit:that's a's pitcher joe kennedy on the mound, and he's in this next photo, too
putting the walk in walk-off as the twins celebrate.
i also found another card that deals with mauer's debut, which was another game i attended and wrote about here. this one is from 2015 topps allen & ginter's starting point insert set
the photo used isn't from that game, but the back matches the date of mauer's debut:i enjoy seeing games that i attended on cardboard, especially now that ticket stubs are fully digital. it's nice to have a physical reminder of these games. more mauer power coming tomorrow - stay tuned!
Don't think any game I've attended was noteworthy enough to land on a baseball card. That Mauer walk-off must've been a treat to see live!
ReplyDeletewalk-offs are always fun as long as you are rooting for the home team.
DeleteAlways cool to unearth one of these!
ReplyDeleteyes! i wasn't paying very close attention back in 2008, but i'm glad i found it now.
DeleteTopps put erroneous information on one of their cards? I'm shocked... said no one, ever!
ReplyDeletei guess with topps now these days they are just being consistent with past performance in sets like this one.
