it was too late to update my order

i pre-ordered a box of 2020 topps update well before the checklist was released. once i saw the checklist, i predicted a case of buyers' remorse. i then confirmed that buyers' remorse after i opened a hanger box prior to my full box arriving.

the lows of this set have been covered previously, so i'll just show some of the dodger cards that were in the packs that i opened:
the tyler white card might be the worst topps card of 2020, just because of what it symbolizes - laziness. white's series 1 card was welcome (just like terrance gore's card in update) as there weren't any other dodger cards of him available. but, to have another card made even though he was featured in series 1 and he was no longer with the team as of mid-july, is to not really care about the checklist.

i did find a couple of dodger inserts in my box, which was nice. both were sandy koufax cards - a numbers game
and decades' best
i already showed my favorite card of 2020, which unfortunately was not found in my box. instead, i found the yankee equivalent:
seven-year old me recognizes this scene from the 1978 world series. the yankees are celebrating here on dodger stadium soil. gross.

more dodger stadium on cardboard courtesy of rowdy tellez
and a double play card featuring jason kipnis
the kipnis is a legitimate update card, as he played with the cubs in 2020 after spending his entire career to that point with the cleveland baseball team.

here's another card for the mini-collection binder - bryce harper all-star game subset card
it's from the 2018 all-star game and so we see dave roberts lurking in the background as the national league's manager.

i also added a couple of update cards to my collection thanks to thorzul's annual "trade me anything" event. i sent him some things, and he sent me a gavin lux card
and a wander franco insert
the only other update card i've picked up since opening my box is this angels decades' best card
i wanted it due to the presence of stuntman mickey hatcher.

i will say i've enjoyed the decades' best insert set, just as i enjoyed the 2019 greatest seasons/players/moments insert set. i just hope for better base checklists in 2021.

last but not least, i received some cards from jay at cardboard hemorrhage. they included a few random cards from 2020 update, including this card of gleyber torres
not even panini is that good at hiding logos!

  1. The whole Tyler White situation definitely sums up 2020 Update in a nutshell.

  2. Geez, that is super lazy. It’s like they just threw something together because they feel like they had to.
