repacks bring the funderburk

i was in houston earlier this year and wasn't feeling that great. i made stops at a cvs and a walgreens to get some supplies to combat my illness, and figured i would take a peek at what cards they might have available. the cvs had a standard repack that i bought and quickly regretted. the only card i bothered to scan from it was mark funderburk's 1986 donruss card
and that was only because his name struck me as interesting. i collected and put together the '86 donruss set back in real time, but i have to say i forgot about funderburk. here's his card back:
he played all over the world and didn't do too badly for the twins in 1985. he didn't make it back to the majors after 1985, unfortunately. while looking him up on baseball reference, i saw that there is another funderburk in the majors - kody funderburk (no relation) debuted in 2023 with the twins. i guess the twins are trying to corner the funderburk market.

walgreens had blister packs containing two unopened packs. both packs i bought had 2018 panini donruss optic packs on top and i was hoping to pull a shohei ohtani rookie card. in the first blister, the second pack was 2022 topps gypsy queen. my green retail parallel was decent, as it was a dodger
and i actually needed dustin may's card. the rest of the pack was not so great as it included doubles of miguel cabrera and andrew vaughn
the optic packs yielded a red and yellow prizm parallel of adam jones
a name variation of giancarlo stanton
and a long ball insert of aaron judge
as for the second pack in the second blister, it was 2021 topps uk edition, and i found a carlos correa card for my double play collection
the real prize, however, was this corey seager parallel
it's the purple parallel, and is numbered to 50
this is probably my best repack pull other than a 2018 topps heritage high numbers ronald acuna jr card a few years ago. it's almost worth the aches and pains that necessitated the drug store run in the first place! the bad news is that, after finding this card, i am more likely to continue to buy these repacks. well done, repack company. well done.

  1. Repacks are dead around here. They're Fairfield boxes, but they're way worse than their pre-COVID boxes.

    Voting for Seager.

  2. Saw a guy on YouTube open up some of these blisters with the UK packs. I hopped in my car and drove to the one down the street from me and didn't find any. If I ever do find them, I'll probably buy a few.

  3. They still have tons of these repacks around here. There wouldn't be anything in them for me, but I have thought about buying a few for some sort of contest or a free break.

  4. What were the chances that two Funderburks were NOT related?!
