four logos and more logos

just over a year ago, i posted about looking for, and finding, four team logos on a single card. well, this year, topps makes it much easier thanks to the inclusion of the player portrait and the team logo. take a look at max kepler's 2023 topps card, for example:

he's got the twins' tc logo on his hat, sleeve and again on his hat in the portrait, and it appears beside the portrait as well. of course, before i saw four logos on this card i saw kepler's eyes. they are wide open!

like the twins, four logos are easier to find for teams like the pirates

the tigers

the angels

the blue jays

the diamondbacks

and other teams that wear their hat logos somewhere on their uniforms. that's not enough, however, as the hat logo also needs to be the team's primary logo.

that rules the yankees out, whose "top hat and cane" logo

is the team's official logo.

and, of course, the dodgers are in the same boat as their official logo is the "flying baseball" logo

that doesn't show up anywhere on their uniforms. the interlocking "la" is on freeman's left sleeve in case you were wondering where the third logo was. this was not the best card to use to illustrate my point.

anyway, here's a closer look at the primary dodger logo

thanks to a trea turner logo manupatch card i picked up in a cheap lot of 2023 inserts and parallels. for some reason, seeing the dodgers referred to as "lad" will always remind me of playing tony larussa baseball (later mvp baseball) on my pc. it will also remind me of oingo boingo.

one final thought on the interlocking "la" logo. i recently tracked down the dodger hat version of the 1982 fleer sticker insert

and immediately took note as to how pronounced fleer made the interaction between the letters. because the letters are the same color, i have to say i never really considered that they were separate in the same way that the "t" and the "c" are on twins hats. this sticker has made me question a few things!

anyway, as far as four logos on one card are concerned, what was once a scarcity has become much easier to find. the stakes have been raised, i suppose, and i will be looking for a five logo card through series 2 and update.
